HORII Shunsuke
Born in Tokyo, I began studying piano and solfège at an early age, then learned clarinet, wind band conducting, and wind band instruction.
During my student years, I competed in national competitions and selected ensemble competitions 16 times. As a member of the Japanese national team, I won the overall championship at the World Marching Band Competition in the UK. I have performed in over 1,000 concerts, including performances at Disney Resort.
My work as a staff member for the New Japan Philharmonic exposed me to rehearsals led by renowned musicians such as Seiji Ozawa, Joe Hisaishi, and Daniel Harding, inspired me to pursue a career in music.
Currently, I conduct and instruct in a wide range of fields, including wind bands, orchestral productions, choral music, and marching bands. I have arranged over 1,000 pieces and composed "I/m" in 2025. I have worked with over 100 wind ensembles and taught more than 10,000 students, leading numerous groups to national, East Japan, and regional competitions, earning a cumulative total of over 300 gold awards.
In addition to serving as a contest and competition judge, I am also a lecturer and commentator for band director training workshops. I am a member of the Japanese Band Directors Association.
